Health Equity

As one of the core values of MDR, we specialize in projects focused on health equity. Our overall philosophy is based on a community-based participatory research (CBPR) approach. CBPR is built on the collaboration and participation of community members, researchers, and community organizations to achieve health equity through social action. It uses methods that build trust within communities and allow members to participate in all stages of the research process.

This approach empowers communities by giving them ownership of the work, along with the tools and resources needed to address local challenges (including health disparities) by building on community assets and identifying opportunities for improvement. CBPR:

  • Ensures that all respondents, regardless of their background or identity, have the opportunity and ability to participate.
  • Reflects the diverse experiences of the population.
  • Seeks to eliminate biases and the exclusion of underrepresented and marginalized groups.
  • Leads to more accurate and reliable data.
  • Allows for solutions to be developed that truly benefit or meet the needs of everyone.
