At MDR, we recognize that the health and well-being of young people is foundational to the strength and future of our communities. Through focused, evidence-based research on youth and adolescent health, we help leaders, educators, and providers better understand the challenges youth and adolescents face and how to support them in leading healthier, more resilient lives.
Why Youth & Adolescent Health Matters
Adolescence is a pivotal stage in life, shaped by physical, emotional, and social change. It’s also a time when habits are formed, identities are shaped, and health risks can emerge or intensify. From mental health and substance use to nutrition, physical activity, and access to care, the choices made and the support provided during this period can influence long-term outcomes.
Our research helps answer critical questions:
- What supports young people need to help improve and promote physical and mental health?
- How do family, school, and community environments affect youth health?
- What policies and programs are most effective in promoting the health and wellbeing of youth?
Our Approach
MDR partners with government agencies, nonprofits, and community organizations to produce rigorous, actionable research that improves youth health outcomes. This includes experience implementing and analyzing logistically complex surveys, such as the Youth Risk Behavior Survey (YRBS). We center equity in everything we do, recognizing the importance of culturally responsive strategies, addressing disparities, and amplifying youth voices in the research process.
Driving Impact Through Insight
The insights we uncover inform better policy, stronger programs, and smarter investments. Whether evaluating a school-based health initiative, analyzing national survey data, or co-developing interventions with communities, our work helps build systems that support all youth, regardless of background.
