The Wyoming Mental Health and Substance Use Services Consumer Survey (MHSIP) is a statewide initiative conducted by MDR in partnership with the Wyoming Department of Health, Behavioral Health Division. The project aligns with federal SAMHSA guidelines for the annual Mental Health Statistics Improvement Program Survey and aims to assess consumer experiences with state-funded mental health services across Wyoming.
The 2024 survey was designed to capture feedback from individuals receiving mental health and substance use services. MDR developed a 31-question instrument that covered a range of topics including health outcomes, provider effectiveness, coordination with other healthcare professionals, and other federally mandated MHSIP domains. The survey was reviewed by MDR’s research team and programmed for both online and paper-based administration using Voxco.
Data collection was conducted from March through June 2024 using a multi-mode push-to-web and pen-and-paper approach. Mental health facilities across the state distributed paper surveys along with prepaid business reply envelopes and posted flyers containing QR codes and login credentials for online access. This dual-mode strategy ensured broad accessibility and encouraged participation across diverse populations.
A total of 690 respondents completed the survey and passed all data verification checks. MDR compiled the results into comprehensive data compendiums and produced raw and weighted datasets formatted for SAMHSA’s Uniform Reporting System (URS) tables. Additionally, provider-level reports were generated to support local insights and quality improvement efforts.
This project exemplifies MDR’s expertise in multimode data collection and its commitment to delivering actionable insights for behavioral health programs. The use of both digital and traditional survey methods, combined with rigorous data validation and tailored reporting, made this a robust and responsive evaluation of Wyoming’s behavioral health services.
