Research Tip

For reports of executive interviews allow sufficient time for reporting. Reviewing, summarizing and reporting information collected from qualitative interviews is very time intensive.

Market Decisions has extensive experience conducting research for senior housing and nursing homes.

Assisted Living

For many years Market Decisions has assisted developers and consultants with market assessments. For these projects we typically conduct a telephone survey of areas proximate to a proposed location to understand the characteristics of target consumers as well as their perceptions and preferences. Market Decisions has developed standard telephone survey instruments that we customize for specific organizations. This allows us to provide complex and sophisticated surveys very cost effectively. Either before or after such a survey we normally conduct focus groups to add a more detailed understanding of the nuances of consumer behavior.

Nursing Home Satisfaction

Market Decisions has become nationally known for its work in nursing home satisfaction research. For the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, Market Decisions developed a survey instrument based on consumer input (focus groups) and testing (one-on-one and statistical) for measuring the satisfaction of relatives of residents in nursing homes. This is one of the few scientifically constructed and tested instruments currently available. The data collection method is a
multi stage mail survey, sent to the homes of relatives of nursing home residents.

For the Maine Bureau of Elderly Affairs, Market Decisions piloted satisfaction surveys among nursing home residents, conducting one-on-one interviews among residents in a sample of nursing homes across the state.

For a summary of our experiences and our views on opportunities with resident satisfaction surveys, see our Nursing Home Satisfaction Research PowerPoint presentation.

We partner with the
Institute for Health, Health Care Policy and Aging Research (IHHCP) at Rutgers University on many of our nursing home assignments. The Division on Aging at IHHCP is nationally known for its work in analyzing policies and programs for the elderly and for persons with chronic illnesses.
